As you are already aware, Discord’s servers are used to facilitate user interaction while gamers. What happens, though, if you wish to connect with a stranger? How are you going to reach them? You can just DM them to solve this problem quickly.
You can send a Direct Message (DM) to anyone on Discord, even if they are not a buddy. You are able to quickly conduct a private conversation with them as long as you are both on the same server.
Whether we are contacting someone on Discord, Instagram, or WhatsApp, we always want to know if they have read our messages. Most people begin overanalyzing what might have upset the other person in their texts if they have received them and haven’t responded.
For this reason, read receipts are a common feature in talking apps. With the exception of WhatsApp, where these alerts may be disabled, all other apps alert us when a message has been read.

How to Know if Someone Read Your Message on Discord
On Discord, you can’t see if someone has read your message, which is unfortunate. This is due to Discord’s lack of a read receipt capability at this time. But we also provide some positive news.
In February of last year, @discordapp was tweeted by a Discord user on Twitter. Do you want to create an icon that indicates if you have read a message? Such a feature would be helpful.
We can all understand that this user is talking about read receipts despite the slightly awkward phrasing.
The Twitter handle for the Discord app commented to this by writing:
Read receipts are a very common recommendation! Make sure to vote for this suggestion on our feedback page so that our development staff is aware of it. Developer(s) is referred to as “dev”
Discord has seen the comment and responded to it, but has not yet taken any action. However, we are crossing our fingers that this feature will be included in the upcoming version.
How to Send Messages to Someone on Discord
Let’s talk about how to send a DM to someone while we wait for Discord to implement this capability.
(Note: Several people continue to set their DM settings to Friends Only. Sending a friend request and hoping they accept it are your only options if the person you are attempting to reach is not one of your Discord friends.)
We’ll explain how to send a Direct Message (DM) from Android and iOS in this part.
Android-based devices:
Let’s start by talking about how you can DM a friend on Discord:
- Open the Discord app on your smartphone and log in to your account.
- On the top-left corner of the screen, you will see the All tab. Click on it.
- A list of all your friends on the app will appear on your screen when you do it. Here, navigate and click on the avatar of your friend who you want to text.
- Choose the Chat/Message button to send them a DM.
- Type in the message you want to send, and hit Enter. There you go. Now you can easily send a message to one of your friends on Discord.
Let’s move on to discussing how to send a message to a server user who isn’t a buddy.
- Open the Discord app on your smartphone and log in to your account.
- Open the server on which the person you wish to talk to is. There, tap on the icon that looks like two people together.
- Once you do that, you ll see a list of all the users on the server. Once you see the user you want to talk to, click on their avatar.
- You ll see a number of options, like Profile, Mention, Message, and Call. Tap on the third option, called Message.
- Type in the message what you want to tell them, and hit Send.
iPhones and iPads:
Although there isn’t much of a difference between how to DM someone on Android and iOS, we’ve done our best to explain how to do it anyhow.
First, here are the Discord DM instructions for one of your pals.
Open the Discord app on your phone and sign into your account like step one.
Step 2: Locate the Friends logo, which is a picture of a person holding up one hand, next to the Discord logo at the bottom of the screen. Just click it.
Step 3: You should see a list of all your friends. To initiate a conversation, click on the desired party’s avatar. This will cause a pop-up window to emerge.
